Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out in theaters next year and follows the first movie’s heroes as they search for Starlord’s father. Some recently revealed concept art also shows that the Guardians are going to find themselves in trouble with a giant, tentacled monster.
Director James Gunn posted the photo to Twitter, which is shared in the new Empire Magazine. It features Starlord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Baby Groot going up against a giant monster with multiple tentacles and layers of teeth. You can see it for yourself below.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set for its theatrical release on May 5, 2017. It sees the return of stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker. The sequel adds Sylvester Stallone (Creed), Elizabeth Debicki (The Man From UNCLE), Nathan Fillion (Firefly), and Kurt Russell (Fast & Furious 7) to its cast. Russell is playing Ego the Living Planet.
Groot actor Vin Diesel recently revealed that the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in the next Avengers movie, which is slated to release in theaters on May 4, 2018. Despite this, Gunn said the Guardians sequel won’t lead into the Avengers movie.
“There will be no Infinity Stones in Vol. 2″, he said. “There will be infinity nothing. It’s a story about the Guardians and isn’t meant to lead to anything else.”
