Nintendo started off by confirming that the “Welcome Amiibo” update for Animal Crossing: New Leaf is out now, ahead of the previously announced December 2 launch.
The update also comes with an Amiibo camera feature that lets you snap photos with the creatures.
Today’s Nintendo Direct also showed some new footage of previously announced features, including the Animal Crossing Puzzle League and Desert Island Escape minigames. You can also update your home with items from Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. Additionally, some Splatoon items and characters are coming to New Leaf, while Wolf Link, Medli, Ganon, and Epona characters from Zelda are also coming.
More details about New Leaf’s Welcome Amiibo update are available on the game’s website.

Nintendo will share more details on Animal Crossing: New Leaf‘s Amiibo support and possibly more today during a Nintendo Direct briefing dedicated to the game.
As announced previously, the Nintendo Direct kicks off at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 2 PM UK today, November 2. You can watch the entire event right here in this post through the Twitch embed below.
Specifically, this Nintendo Direct briefing will focus on the upcoming “Welcome Amiibo” update for the 3DS game. As announced previously, New Leaf will add Amiibo support in December.
When the update comes out, you can tap compatible Amiibo figures and cards on your 3DS, which will then bring that specific villager to your town. Today’s Nintendo Direct may explain in greater detail how that will work.
Separately, it’s been confirmed that the Japanese steam will include details on Miitopia, a game announced during a Nintendo Direct Japanese briefing earlier this year. Don’t expect any news about the Animal Crossing smartphone game or Nintendo Switch, however, according to Gematsu.
