Arkane Austin showed off a new trailer for Prey at The Game Awards 2016, offering a longer look at gameplay from its upcoming narrative driven sci-fi game. The bulk of the action takes place on Talos, a space station that players explore throughout the game.
There’s also a variety of strange, black entities that serve as the enemies in the game. They come in all shapes and sizes, from small, skittering spiders to huge, hulking monsters. Weapons showcased include a shotgun and a gravity grenade, which sucks in objects surrounding the impact zone.
Prey was also announced as Game Informer’s next cover feature. As part of the coverage, a new extended developer diary has been released, with director Raphael Colantonio offering a walkthrough of the game’s setting, story, enemies, and weapons. Check it out here.
Prey is the new game from Dishonored developer Arkane Studios. It is not connected to the previous game of the same name. Colantonio has described it as neither a horror game nor a shooter. Instead it is “more like a hybrid game where there’s narrative mixed with action mixed with a little bit of [an] RPG layer.”
Prey 2 was in development at one point with Human Head Studios attached, however this version of the game was cancelled in 2014. The first Prey was released back in 2006 for PC and Xbox 360 by Human Head Studios, which has gone on to develop games like Dungeon Defenders II.
The new Prey is due out for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2017.
