Telltale has announced Season 3 of The Walking Dead will kick off with a two-part premiere. Speaking at The Game Awards, the studio said the first episode was too big for a single episode and instead both parts will launch on December 20.
A new trailer for the episode, which is titled The Ties That Bind, was shown during the event. It featured a family dealing with the transformation of their grandfather into a zombie. Although The Walking Dead Season 3 casts players as new character Javier, Clementine, who has been in the series since the very start, also makes an appearance in the trailer. Check it out above.
Telltale previously confirmed both Clementine and Javier are playable in the upcoming season. Their come from different backgrounds but unite in their struggle to protect their loved ones. Executive producer Kevin Boyle previously said, “Javier will begin to unravel the mystery of who Clementine has become, as her story intersects with his–both of them still driven by the things they value most long after society’s collapse.”
A “Season Pass Disc” for PS4 and Xbox One will be available for purchase, alongside digital copies. You’ll need an internet connection either way, as the disc only includes the first episode and requires you to download the rest of them.
The third season will feature the same formula as past games in the series, and in an interview with GameSpot, Telltale explained why it doesn’t need to change things up.
