Atlus has released a new trailer for Persona 5, and despite running less than two minutes, it offers a good overview of its various mechanics.
The video focuses on what goes on inside Palaces, Persona 5’s version of dungeons. As revealed previously, there’s an element of stealth when you’re making your way through, as you’re able to take cover in order to avoid enemies–or sneak up on them for an ambush. These areas are more complex than the narrow corridors seen in previous games.
In combat, you’ll have the ability to occasionally speak with enemies, rather than simply fight them. Not unlike in the Shin Megami Tensei series that Persona is an offshoot of, you’ll be able to talk your way out of a fight at times, or even demand things like money or items from a cornered enemy. Some can also be convinced to join your party, giving you an additional Persona to wield. Should you instead opt to fight, the trailer shows how you can “pass the baton” to ensure you’re attacking with a character who can take advantage of the enemy’s weakness.
As always, the trailer also shows off the game’s visual flair and stylish menus. They continue to look great.
Following a delay announced in November, Persona 5 launches on April 4 for PS4 and PS3.
