The Lego Batman Movie ruled the weekend at the US box office, making $34.2 million to become the No. 1 film for the second week in a row, according to estimates posted by Entertainment Weekly.
Rounding out the top five films for the February 17-19 weekend were Fifty Shades Darker ($21 million), The Great Wall ($18.1 million), John Wick: Chapter 2 ($16.5 million), and Fist Fight ($12 million).
The Lego Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker repeated as No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, as they held those spots last weekend as well.
A notable miss this weekend was Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski’s new thriller, A Cure For Wellness, which opened to only $4.2 million. The movie had a reported budget of $40 million.
Tomorrow, February 20, is a holiday in the United States (President’s Day). We’ll update this post with figures for Monday when they become available.
