AMC has renewed The Walking Dead spinoff Fear the Walking Dead for a third season. The cable network made the announcement today, ordering 16 more episodes that will premiere in 2017. The renewal comes less than a week after Fear the Walking Dead‘s second season started this past Sunday.
According to Deadline, Fear the Walking Dead‘s April 10 Season 2 debut suffered a significant ratings dropoff from the premiere of Season 1 in August 2015. The numbers were still good enough for AMC to greenlight a third season in part because the show remains the second highest-rated program on cable this year in the 18-49 demographic, behind only The Walking Dead itself.
The first season of Fear the Walking Dead spanned six episodes, while the second will have 15.
In other news about Fear the Walking Dead, a free mobile game based on the show, Dead Run, was released earlier this month. You play as characters from the show and try to escape a Los Angeles overrun by zombies.
Fear the Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman’s comic series, which is also the source material for Telltale’s Walking Dead episodic franchise.
