After a huge Thursday night of previews, Fox’s R-rated superhero movie Logan made $33 million at the US box office on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s now on pace to make $80 million for the full weekend, up from a previous estimate of $65 million.
“Logan, following upon the success of last year’s daring Deadpool, is another victory for 20th Century Fox in proving that R-rated superhero films can have sharp claws. To boot, it is getting the widest release ever for an R-rated title,” THR reported.
The US is just one market for Logan. It also opened in a number of international markets this weekend, including China–the second-largest movie market in the world. According to THR, Logan could make as much as $100 million from international markets this weekend.
We will report back later today with a full roundup of the Top 10 movies at the US box office.
Logan, which is being praised by critics including GameSpot, is the last movie in the series to star Hugh Jackman. Additionally, Patrick Stewart is retiring his Professor X character.
If you’re seeing Logan this weekend, you’ll also see the first teaser for Deadpool 2.
