Steven Spielberg’s Next Movie Stars Tom Hanks And Meryl Streep

Steven Spielberg is one of Hollywood’s biggest names, so it’s always interesting to see what projects he works on. Today, Variety reported that the movie-making veteran is going to direct a film based on the Pentagon Papers starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

Titled The Post, the movie will be about the Washington Post‘s publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971 that detailed the United States’ political and military efforts during the Vietnam War. The newspaper butted heads with the US government over the publication of the documents.

The papers were eventually released to the public in 2011. You can watch the video news report from GameSpot sister site CBS News above to learn more.

Hanks is in line to play Post editor Ben Bradlee, with Streep taking on the role of Kay Graham, who also worked for the paper and was a key player in the battle with the government.

The Post doesn’t have a release date yet, but it likely won’t be soon. Spielberg is directing 2018’s virtual reality-focused movie Ready Player One and producing The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara.

Spielberg is also working on a Halo TV series, though we have not heard anything about it in a long time.
