Every Wednesday, hundreds of new comic books are released, and figuring out what books are worth reading can be a daunting task. Luckily, we’re here to help you out with that. Here are five upcoming issues, in no particular order, you should consider buying on Wednesday, August 10.
All-Star Batman #1
- Published by DC
- Written by Scott Snyder
- Art by John Romita Jr
DC is going Batman-heavy during its Rebirth initiative. The newest series has longtime Batman writer Scott Snyder returning with John Romita Jr on art. This creative team will be reimagining some of Batman’s greatest villains, and the issue will tackle Two-Face. Snyder has done wonders with Batman, so this is a must-buy for any Dark Knight fan.
Wonder Woman #4
- Published by DC
- Written by Greg Rucka
- Art by Nicola Scott
While this book is alternating between stories every issue, the new Wonder Woman series has been phenomenal. It’s one of the best starts in years. This week’s issue deals with Wonder Woman’s origin. The book revolves around her first meeting a man who washed ashore Themyscira, which in turn will lead to her becoming the character fans are familiar with. It’s got a lot of promise.
Black Monday Murders #1
- Published by Image
- Written by Jonathan Hickman
- Art by Tomm Coker
If you’re looking for something a bit further from the traditional superhero stuff, Black Monday Murders may be up your alley. Writer Jonathan Hickman dives into occultism and magic in this new story. Hickman is a bit of a high-concept writer, but overall, his pieces tend to be incredibly brilliant.
Black Panther #5
- Published by Marvel
- Written by Ta-Nehisi Coates
- Art by Chris Sprouse
A new arc starts this week in Black Panther, building on the last story, which has the character’s home country of Wakanda falling apart. It’s been an incredible read thus far, seeing a country unravel right before our eyes. Chris Sprouse (Thors) joins as the guest artist this week. This book is truly redefining who Black Panther is.
Vision #10
- Published by Marvel
- Written by Tom King
- Art by Gabriel Walta
Sadly, Vision is coming to a close at issue #12. The final act is here as Vision plans his revenge in this series, which has horror undertones. We’re about to see Vision take on other heroes, and it should be an exciting ride. Writer Tom King has crafted something brilliant that feels like nothing else we’ve read at the company.
