Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is no stranger to social media, and frequently talks to the fans on Twitter and Facebook. Following a Q&A this week, Gunn posted a Facebook summary of all of his answers about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, including some surprising news about tree-like alien favorite Groot.

Since the first movie ended with Groot reborn as a baby “tree,” fans have been wondering if gruff-voiced Vin Diesel would still be performing him. The answer, it seems, is yes. “Vin is an actor and capable of doing many voices,” Gunn explained. “His Carol Channing is famous in Hollywood.”

Gunn also explained that Baby Groot wasn’t necessarily the same being as in the first movie, describing his relationship to his earlier form as “complicated”, and revealing that he doesn’t have any of his earlier memories.

Last month, it was announced that the Guardians would feature in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. To date there has been relatively little crossover between those characters and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Diesel himself confirmed the news. “Now, the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting,” he said, via Variety. “You were told before everybody.”

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, and Kurt Russell. It hits cinemas on May 5, 2017.
